Nation’s first Electric Avenue opens to public on PSU campus Aug 16

Street dedicated to charging electric vehicles with latest in charging technology


Portland State University, Portland General Electric and the city of Portland are hosting agrand opening of the nation’s first Electric Avenue – an urban showcase for electric  vehicles and charging technology – on the PSU campus.

Electric Avenue, a street on the PSU campus, features seven EV charging stations from six manufacturers, including a quick-charge station, where students and visitors can plug in and charge up electric cars, trucks, bicycles and motorcycles.

Speakers include: Wim Wiewel, president of PSU; Jim Piro, president and CEO of PGE; and Sam Adams, mayor of Portland.

There will be a number of electric cars, trucks and bicycles on display charging up including: Nissan LEAF, Chevrolet Volt, Mitsubishi iMiEV, Tesla Roadster, Ford Transit Connect, Smith Newton and more.

Technology partners will be on hand to demonstrate their charging stations including Eaton, Shorepower Technologies, OpConnect, SPX, ECOtality and General Electric.

Electric Avenue, a two-year research and development project, is part of a continued partnership between PSU, PGE and the city of Portland to showcase EVs, charging technology, and urban design through collaboration.
